Women with sex addiction have unique and complex issues that may be distinct from those experienced by men.
Women often experience greater stigma, shame, and isolation regarding their sexual desires and behaviours; these challenges can be particularly difficult when other women reinforce these attitudes. It can be hard for women to trust others, perhaps because they have had bad experiences opening up to others, and because women can be competition for sexual partners.
Women with sex and love addictions often have trouble sustaining long-term healthy relationships and group therapy can begin to help build intimate and caring relationships with other women. I prefer to run small group therapy sessions (with 4-6 women) in guided facilitation.
